Heritage Scrapbooks
While the albums you might purchase as part of a Scrapallier Video Tribute are all centered around an individual, your Heritage Scrapbook can be broader in scope. Digital scrapbooks are the ideal solution for Heritage Scrapbooks because once your relatives see it they will all ask you to make a copy for them. And, with a digital album you don't need to worry about whether memorabilia is acid-free or accidentally damaging irreplaceable photos.
Finding the photos is the most time consuming part of the project. And, if you are creating a Video Tribute for you loved one you are already going through all those photos. Why not set your favorite photos aside, organizing them in groups as you go. Information about the photos will be needed, so be thinking about the "Who/what/when/where/why" questions you want to ask parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and siblings. To keep things simple buy a package of index cards and write the information gathered for each photo on them, keeping it with its corresponding photo. At the bare minimum, include the time period the photo was taken, the full name of every person in the photo, and a short description of the photo location. Your family's contribution to the stories will help make the album a treasured family keepsake.
- The following questions may spur some great conversations with your family:
- What were some unique traditions in your family?
- What did you do for family fun? Sports, cards, hunting, fishing?
- What were the roles and personalities in the family dynamics?
- What traits do you share with your ancestors? Who has grandma's smile or grandpa's nose?
- What lessons about the value of family or work ethic did you learn from your ancestors?
- What do you remember about your childhood home?
- Do you have favorite recipes from your mom, grandmother, or aunt that you want to include?
- Do any family members need to be commemorated for their military service?
I guess I have a little bit of my dad's genealogy nature in me because I adore old pictures. My dad researched our genealogy as far back as thirteen generations in one family lineage. It may be all the chats I had with my dad about our ancestors that make me want to help others with a pictorial genealogy masterpiece. It does not matter if the photos are of my family or not, I thoroughly enjoy working with them and I hope to have the privilege of designing a heritage album for your family.
Family Albums
Most families have boxes or hard drives full of family photos with every intention of doing something with them someday. Why don't you consider letting me handle it for you. We can start small by doing a wall hanging. Or, by putting me on a monthly retainer to keep your photos current. And while I'm working in real time for this year's album I can work backwards one year at a time. All you have to do to get started is pick your favorite ten to fifteen photos for each month of last year!
Cheerleading, Football, or Classroom Books
If you select me to create a photo book for you this season I will set up a social media site for your group. It can be in Facebook, or Flickr, or a site of your choosing. Just as long as all of the families can access it to upload their photos. You will give me the season schedule and the families can have an agreed upon week or two to upload the photos from each event. This allows me to work as the season progresses so you all can enjoy your photobooks that much sooner.
